What is CLARITY?

Clarity by Lutronic is a dual wavelength device that offers fantastic versatility in the number of indications it can treat for aesthetic purposes. It’s highly effective in permanently reducing unwanted hair at unprecedented speed.

The treatment uses laser energy in short pulse widths. The dual wavelengths mean that all skin types can be treated (a great advantage among other devices for laser hair removal). Clarity has a huge advantage over other brands due to its larger range of laser-based treatments because the practitioner has the option of 755nm or 1064nm wavelengths. This means that any skin type can be treated.

The correct wavelength is chosen to suit the patient’s needs, and the laser delivers precisely targeted photothermal energy (light that turns to heat) that can destroy hair follicles. Clarity also offers single-fibre delivery with nine spot sizes ranging up to 20mm – in both wavelengths, in short pulse widths to minimise discomfort.

How Does It Works?

Using a longer pulse duration than other pigment lasers, Clarity can remove stubborn pigmented lesions with its 2 wavelengths.

The laser also targets atypical blood vessels to reduce the production of melanin, which causes hyperpigmentation such as freckles, age spots and melasma, without harming the surrounding tissue. By targeting those blood vessels and breaking up melanin particles to be absorbed by the body, the skin will be left clearer and lighter.

To treat vascular birthmarks, veins, as well as skin redness, the laser targets the atypical blood vessels and shrinks them using heat without harming the surrounding tissue. In the case of vascular veins and lesions, which are generally enlarged veins near the surface of the skin, these will reduce their appearance. For vascular birthmarks and skin redness such as rosacea, the shrinking of the atypical blood vessels will reduce blood flow to the area, thus decreasing the red colour in those areas.

To improve skin texture, Clarity laser uses heat to trigger a controlled injury response in the skin. When the heat from the laser causes micro lesions in the skin, the body’s natural response to injury is to boost collagen production. This increase in collagen effectively raises the scar and fills it in, with reduced downtime as compared to traditional ablative lasers, which use heat to take off the top layers of skin to resurface it.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Different body areas need a different amount of treatment. During your laser hair removal consultation we will assess the skin and hair, and plan a tailor-made programme that will offer you the best results to suit your needs.

This depends on what the patient is undergoing Clarity laser for. lt can be as quick as 10min for removal of pigmented spots and patches or veins or acne treatment. For skin rejuvenation that includes face shaping and lifting, it can take around 30 to 45min.

Again, this depends on the indication of the laser. Whitening, brightening and face shaping will be seen immediately after the laser procedure. For permanent hair reduction, usually 3 to 5 sessions are needed to see the changes in hair thickness and density.

Most of the Clarity procedures have zero downtime, except for freckle and sunspot removal. Patients are able to go about their usual activities after the laser.

Do your best to avoid a suntan to the area being treated: a suntan can put your skin at risk and will make the laser treatment less effective as we may have to reduce the treatment settings or delay your treatment until the tan has faded. This also applies to sun beds and self-tanning creams. If you think you have exposed the treatment area to the sun, you are advised to book an appointment for an assessment that may include a new test patch before your next treatment. Do not apply aggravating creams to the skin before or during the course of treatment. This includes Glycolic Acid (AHA creams) and Retin-A cream. Also be sure to tell us if you have been on antibiotics, or taking any tablets for acne such as Roaccutane, for any period in the year before treatment.
